Once the main plot is established and moves on its own, episodes like "The Warriors of Kyoshi" and "Imprisoned" establish robust subplots for Sokka and Katara that flesh them out as more than simple set dressing to the protagonist, Aang. The one big exception to this is Toph. Being introduced halfway through Avatar, the show made far less time for the earthbending master than she deserved.Ĭharacter-centric stories make up some of the best episodes in Avatar: The Last Airbender. Every main member of the cast had multiple episodes focusing on important parts of their development that revealed who they were and who they were becoming, helping the audience get that much more invested in them. While progressing its plot, Avatar: The Last Airbender always carefully left space to focus on its characters and develop their arcs as the story continued.
